Mental Math Addition

You can break apart numbers to make them easier to add mentally.

Lets add 31 + 45

Break the numbers down to tens and ones
 31 + 45
Add the Tens: 30 + 40= 70
Add the Ones: 1 + 5 = 6
Add the Sums: 70 + 6 = 76
So, 31 + 45 = 76

Lets do one more:

24 + 71
Add the tens: 20 + 70 = 90
Add the ones: 4 + 1 = 5
Add the sums: 90 + 5 = 95
